5 Steps to Cooking Live Lobsters

This September Our Store has 2- 1.25 lb Live Lobsters on sale for $19.99 from Maine! This is an incredible deal, however one obstacle for many people is learning how to cook them.  We have boiled (pun intended) down the instructions to boost your confidence and get to cooking!  Just follow these 5 steps to steam a lobster:

  1.  Fill a 4 -5 gallon pot (good for 6 -8 lbs of lobster) with 1 inch of heavily salted water
  2. Rinse the lobster in cold water and remove rubber bands from claws with scissors
  3. Once the water is boiling, put the live lobsters in the water head first
  4. Close the lid
  5. Take out when a small walking leg can be pulled out easily or have an internal temperature of 180 degrees

Maine Lobster

Here are some cooking times if you are working in larger batches:

Lobster Weight Cooking Time
1 – 1 ¼ lb. 12 – 15 minutes
1 ¼ – 2 lb. 15 – 20 minutes
2-3 lb. 20 – 25 minutes
3-6 lb. 25 – 28 minutes
