Farmed Seafood is a part of life in our business now and its the one way to sustain our growing world population. Responsible fish farming is a growing question and is no longer just a trend in the fish business but a standard and companies are recognizing that. There are several eco labels out on the market that span the globe from the USA to the EU but sound science and proper business practices only helps grow the industry as now we have seen significant government interaction or curb mislabeling. The foremost NGO who is seen in the forefront of aquaculture advocacy, education and certification is the Global Aquaculture Alliance. They have set the standard by creating Better Aquaculture Practices (BAP). BAP and the GAA have a very direct mission of “Feeding the world through responsible aquaculture”

“The Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) standards address environmental and social responsibility, animal welfare, food safety and traceability in a voluntary certification program for aquaculture facilities. BAP certification defines the most important elements of responsible aquaculture and provides quantitative guidelines by which to evaluate adherence to those practices.”
